Has anyone felt like the months have just gone by too fast? Two more months and 2018 is done. The last quarter of the year is mostly the busiest time of the year. But before Thanksgiving Day comes the day of the dead, or as most Americans would say, Halloween.
One of the most important holidays as Filipinos is the celebration of the All Souls Day. We celebrate it together with our relatives as we remember our loved ones who have passed.
Traditionally, as Filipinos we have one of the biggest catholic populations in the world, we always pray a novena for 9 days before All Souls Day. Then on the 9th day is the prayers with family gathering. When by “family”, most Filipino families would celebrate it with relatives, extended relatives and even neighbors. It was always fun. Most of the time families would spend lunch or dinner at the cemetery where their loved ones were buried.
This tradition is still very important to me even living the U.S. So for the last couple of years, we pray the 9-day novena for the dead and visit the cemetery where my father-in-law buried. We do the last day of the novena and have our lunch there.
This will be my son’s first trick or treat Halloween and I am excited to see his reaction to the candies. Lol (I’ll be taking them away)
Dinner was planned out and the table setting is ready.
Since things are just so much a whirlwind, I want our table to be just quick and easy to set as well.
I have few candles and antique candle holders. I got these spiders at the dollar tree and just put them together as a centerpiece. They kind of look so real that my son gets scared to be in the room right now. (haha-mean mom)
My tablecloth is from Laura Ashley. It’s a hemstitch tablecloth and is beautiful and a good material. My mother in law had this kind of brand and lasted for a long while.
I also made this do it yourself Halloween mobile out of used boxes and just spray painted them with black.
And that’s it! easy peasy! Do you have any quick holiday table decorating trick? I’d love to see it. Take a snap and tag me with my instagram #richandsweetlife.
Have a safe and happy Halloween everyone!
