The most romantic day of the year has come. For most of us it is stressful to think about how to make it special. For us, every holiday is always a perfect excuse to celebrate with a family gathering. Usually, we think of Valentine’s Day as for couples to enjoy a romantic dinner out. However, it’s a different special dinner in the Hendy House and I couldn’t be more excited to celebrate it. This year, Valentine’s day Falls on Ash Wednesday. As Catholics, fasting on Ash Wednesday is far more important to us than a Valentine’s feast. It is a day to start reflecting from what we are born of and is a way for us to feed the soul.
On the other hand, this doesn’t mean that we’re not going to celebrate Valentine’s day. Instead, we will have a family gathering the day before as a celebration for Fat Tuesday and Valentine’s day together. It is a fun celebration for the family because this time we decided to have a “Big Fat Greek Valentine’s Day”. We know for a fact that Greece is full of customs and traditions that still live on today. The tight-knit family structure has been a big part of that tradition. So, today I am featuring a Greek Valentine’s day tablescape. A quick and easy table set up to celebrate a night for family love.
Here is My Big Fat Greek Valentine’s Day!
When we bought the house last year, it came with a beautiful lemon tree and I couldn’t be more happy about it. Today, our lemon tree has a lot of fruit and is so ready to harvest. Since Greece is a major grower and exporter of lemons, I thought about celebrating Valentine’s Day with a touch of the Greek Isles.
It is no doubt that the aroma of lemon is a terrific fragrance while eating.
We all know that red on Valentine’s day is the cliche. Well, Valentine’s day may have a dominant color of red, but our night is bright and yellow. A little change wouldn’t hurt. After all, tonight is also a Fat Tuesday and a night for the whole family.
Check out our Greek menu for last night’s celebration on my next post.
Thank you for reading. I hope this idea will inspire you to doll up your table whether it’s an occasion to celebrate or just a casual dinner.
Keep in mind, the love of the family starts on the table – from the food you enjoy to the conversation you share.
